Flaunt It Friday: A Little Gaming Reel Behind-The-Scenes
…one that’s Award-nominated, no less!
Gaming Reel, nominated for ‘Best Female Demo’ at the One Voice Awards 2021
As it’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post, I thought I’d share a bit of background info on my Gaming Reel - which has been nominated for Best Female Demo at the One Voice Awards 2021.
I was nervous to record this reel, as it was my first foray into the Gaming VO world (after being a player since my teens), but I knew what I wanted to achieve with it, and that I wanted to both showcase my acting chops (including a range of accents), while also showing my versatility for different characters.
With that in mind I wrote 6 of the 7 pieces on the demo myself - with a little help on one of them from my Writer/ Director husband (which really helps to have another professional eye cast over the script)! Selecting Nick at Notable Voices to produce my reel was an easy choice - he’d already been personally recommended to me by my Brother-in-law (also a Voice Actor), and when I listened to his work and saw the glowing testimonials online (not just on his website), I knew that he would be the right choice for me.
I’m super happy with the overall result: there’s some post-apocalyptic drama in there, a bit of LA Noir/ Femme Fatale action, some Fantasy, some epic battle fighting and grunting, a blood-curdling scream (gotta be done), and I’m happy to add that the gross Zombie noises you hear (starting at the 35s mark) are all me too!
Working with Nick was a breeze and a collaborative effort from the start, we shared ideas and I gave him my scripts to review, and we spoke on the phone before the session as well as in person during the session, to discuss what styles would suit my voice, as well as the performance and production elements we were both looking to achieve with this reel.
Needless to say, I had an absolute blast recording it, and I think it shows - I’m totally in shock that it even got nominated for Best Demo, and really happy for Nick that all his brilliant expertise and skills have been recognised too! The other nominees in my category are INCREDIBLE, so I can’t wait to meet them and celebrate with them on the night - bring on the Awards Ceremony!
