Onscreen Style – The Pixie

2 Jul

The hottest new hair trend for 2011 is the super-short Pixie Crop (as seen on Hollywood A-listers Michelle Williams, Emma Watson and more recently Evan Rachael Wood), but if you are thinking this is a revolutionary new hairstyle, you’d be wrong.

Jean Seberg became a fashion icon for sporting a close Pixie Crop for her role in Jean-Luc Godard’s A Bout de Souffle (1959). Almost a decade later, Mia Farrow was next to sport the boyish Pixie Crop in Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby (1968), transforming herself into a style icon overnight.

Many people might be put off by such as drastic change in hairstyle, but as someone who has treasured long hair all her life, I was pleasantly surprised to find that when I went from shoulder-length hair to a close crop, with one swift snip of the scissors, I have never felt more confident. Short hair on women is the ultimate fashion statement – it really does scream elegance and sophistication. With the likes of Celebrity ambassadors such as Rihanna, Carey Mulligan, and the fashion icons mentioned above, this style is here to stay.
